Designing a specific, effective consultancy brief

Tuesday 14th October 2008 - The Studio, Birmingham

Following a sell out master class last year and the continued demand for the Intelligent Commissioning toolkit we are pleased to be delivering a second master class. Only 25 spaces are available, and with a venue just two minutes walk from Birmingham New Street, we expect demand to be high.

We understand that at some stage you will need to commission an external consultant. They are essential for informing, evaluating and shaping the work you do. Quality, reliability, credibility, appropriateness, value for money: all of these factors need to be considered and balanced when you commission services.

When you commission a consultant or contractor, you are not buying a commodity which can be examined and comes with a guarantee. You are buying a highly variable service which depends on the skills of the individuals involved. The purpose of this master class is to guide you through the process of buying the right skills for your assignment.

Why you need to attend

Intelligent commissioning will help you to: understand the commissioning process from start to finish; make the process work for you and your projects; be able to identify potential pitfalls and how to avoid or deal with them

Every delegate will receive a copy of the Intelligent Commissioning toolkit (see below), which is to be launched at this event. This master class utilises and demonstrates much of the content of the toolkit.

But will it be relevant to me?

This one day master class is essential for anyone who needs to commission consultancy, research and evaluation, or other external serivces. Whether you are working within:

Local authorities // housing associations // new deals for communities // voluntary/community organisations // regional development agencies // local strategic partnerships // development trusts // groundwork trusts

The event will provide a unique learning and networking opportunity and will be highly interactive.
